DEWS OF BLOOD

Hamlet. Not the most joyful piece of literature ever conjured up. No happy family story here. Hamlet's tale is one of loss, revenge, hatred, and, above all, pain.

In our adaptation of Hamlet, we ignored most of the plot. Everyone knows it. For those who don't, we address it - Hamlet says "Thou hast killed thine own brother, uncle" to Claudius - but we do not show every death and betrayal onscreen. Rather, we focus on Hamlet's mental state and his realization of his own mortality.

To be or not to be - that is the cliche. Yes, we include it, but in a bit of a different context than normal. Here, we have Hamlet come to terms with his abuse of Ophelia and his realization that he has lost everything he held dear and he is, suddenly, alone in the world. This is a tale of pain that culminates in death. There is no happy ending, but it is the ending they deserve.
